The upcoming multiplayer FPS game by Blizzard, Overwatch 2 is set to bring a lot of changes to the table. They’ll be bringing a fixed team composition, including several other changes to the meta which was set up by the Overwatch game.

Introduction of 5v5 PvP in Overwatch 2

The biggest change that Overwatch 2 will bring is the introduction of a 5v5 PvP. Currently, Overwatch is a 12-player game with a 6v6 PvP. According to the director of Overwatch, Aaron Keller said on a live stream that it is quite difficult to understand and read what the other eleven players are doing on the field, that’s why removing two of those will allow players to understand and read the game more accurately. He also added that the players will be able to make better decisions in the game because of this change.

Overwatch has also seen many changes throughout the years. At first, you could pick any hero without caring about their roles in the game. However, that was changed to a one hero per role system which balanced out the game for the most part. Reportedly, Blizzard also experimented with several other team compositions besides 5v5, such as a 7v7 or a 4v4 but they decided that 5v5 PvP is the best for the viewers and the players.

Overwatch 2 brings bad news for Tank players

The New Team Composition, bad news for Tank players

Since the PvP has been reduced to 5v5, there will only be a single tank allowed on each team. The team composition includes two support players, two DPS or damage heroes, and one tank on each team. This change will force the tank players to play more aggressively.

Aaron Keller also hinted that most Tank heroes will be receiving several buffs to compensate for their lack of firepower, so they can go on the offense a bit more. He also said that they’re not going to buff the offense of all tank heroes, they will also try to take away the offense from very aggressive tank heroes to make them more balanced for the Overwatch 2.

Map Changes and game modes in the upcoming Overwatch 2

Since the game will now have only one tank per team, the developers at Blizzard are designing the maps and objectives in such a way that they can adapt to this change.

The Overwatch 2 will have 5v5 Competitive mode and Quick Play mode. They’re also introducing a new 5v5 Push PvP mode.

Currently, the Overwatch 2 doesn’t have an official release date. However, Blizzard has made it clear that the game won’t be coming out in 2021.
